E-waste generated in 2019
Problem Statement
With the onset of COVID-19, boththe quantity of electronic devices produced and the amount of time spent using them have increased significantly, and it cause to a surge in electronic waste, especially among young people and z-generation. Although most developed countries have established mature standards for the recycling and disposal of e-waste, the high costs associated with waste processing have led to a large portion of this e-waste being channeled illegally into developing and underdeveloped countries. In these countries, the lack of mature recycling and processing standards has exacerbated local pollution.
In India, nearly 90% of theestimated total e-waste gets handled by the informal sector whereby about 95% is processing by incineration and dismantling instead of recycling. The harmful products produced thereby seriously pollute the environment and directly endanger the health of workers. That waste is not treated and can result in the leaching of hazardous substances into water and soil, affecting communities nearby. If not controlled, this problem could only get worse with the electronic industry growing as much in India.
Proposed Solution
E-wasteEmpower is a long-term way to deal with electronic garbage in developing nations. Using big data and tracking powered by AI makes the recycling process safer and more efficient, and it does less damage to people and the environment.
